Back to the racing

Greetings,

I finally succeeded in taking part at a running event – after a very long time. I think I haven’t done this for about a year due to various reasons. On the one hand the issues in the personal life have made training very exhaustive and there were times I hardly had any interest to go for a jog. Fortunately the spring and summer arrived and made the spirits go higher. Now I can finally think about taking part at a marathon. The next one will probably be the Küstenmarathon in Otterndorf in about 4 months. As I haven’t done anything for marathon training for a good while it is time to include the long runs in the running schedule once again.

Today was my first test in the familiar neighbourhood – my greatly beloved Vahrer-Seen-Lauf. Normally I have run the 10k race, but this time I wanted to get a good start to build up the motivation so I decided to run 5,5 k instead. The run was really hard, though, as I have been mostly running with a considerably lower pace lately. The pace of under 5 mins per km was really hard, even though few years ago I could almost finish a marathon with this pace. For someone who once was doing far better it is disastrous to notice the drop in the performance, but there’s nothing else to do than to get back to right track and gather some more mileage.

Finally I was able to finish today with a final time of 0:23:35 which was way worse than I hoped for, but this only indicates that there is work to be done. At least the motivation is there and the personal worries have given in a bit so there should be a new comeback coming up. I’ll probably write more running related stuff from now on so try to bear with it. 🙂
