Greetings,
today was a rainy day in Bremen, but it was so warm after all that the high humidity didn’t make the thought of running too depressive, so off I went. The training plan suggested I should do a progression run and I chose the pretty standard route, if I want run about 1 hour 15 mins – 1 hour 30 mins.
The plan was to have an easy run and then accelerate the pace during the final 10 – 15 minutes, so that the finish will be a fast one and this will give a foundation for races where you want to have negative split and perform strong in the end phase. My pace during the first 12 km was a pretty peaceful one – about 5.20 – 5.30 min/km. During the final three kilometres I attempted to put some pressure on myself. Every time this seems pretty hard, but lately this type of training has really provided some progress and I can more easily accelerate even though I have been running at a steady pace for a longish time.
A bit of worry is caused by my right leg that has showed symptoms of shin splints. Fortunately the pain has not gotten any worse lately, but especially after having a streak of three or more days of running included, it’s there. I really have to keep my eye on this, as I don’t want to have any longer breaks due to injuries.
Until next week…
