14 x 400m

After a busy week at work I was a bit worried how it would go with today’s training. Moreover, I spent today with the family a couple of hours by helping out in the campaign “Bremen räumt auf” – “Bremen cleans up”. We managed to fill a couple of trash bags and could be satisfied with the outcome. On the other hand I felt even more tired after the grind, which is why I decided to take a small nap before the workout.

My training program currently is targeted at 10k and the following real opportunity will follow in about a month and a half. Today I wanted to accomplish a session that I had skipped previously in the week due to other duties. The session was about a training at speed pace with 12 – 14 times repetition of 400 m with a couple minutes of recovery in-between plus naturally a warmup and cool down phases.

The spring is finally here and I can notice considerable changes in me. It really is big fun to go running with lighter running setup and feel the higher spirits. I managed to run 14 times 400 metres, but obviously not every repeat was as quick as desired. Maybe next time is already better. After all, I was sick still a couple of weeks ago and the half marathon last week is probably also having its toll.

My “secret” agenda from now on will be to run with a bit higher intensity in order to get accustomed with a higher pace and enable the improvement of 10k, half marathon and ultimately the whole marathon best times.

Tomorrow it’s again time for a long run. I really have keep strong and not skip this type of training too often, as I think it has made the fundament a bit less stable during the past few months.
