Fast Finish Long Run

Hey,

Today I went for the week’s long run pretty early in order to get accustomed to early wake-ups and get the body running even early in the morning. This should help me a bit when standing on the starting grid in Berlin in 6 weeks.

I hope the type of training that was accomplished today is beneficial for the marathon. In any case I haven’t really done previously very often workouts with accelerating pace, so if the result will be good I think this is the biggest single factor contributing to the outcome. The weather today was very humid and also warm already at 8 AM which made the running far more difficult than I expected. I don’t want, however, emphasise the weather conditions, since they are always a matter that has to be taken as it is.

The first 9 km I tried to maintain a typical long run pace which turned out to be difficult, because my start today was too soon after the breakfast. On the other hand the following phase of the run today went better – I aimed at keeping up the same pace as I’m targeting at in Berlin. The average pace was about ~4.34 min/km which was OK. Finally the last three kilometres were set at about 4.00 – 4.20 min/km pace. I had tough time reaching that, but succeeded at least in gaining some more speed for the rest of the run. Maybe this will be easier in the future, when I’m more familiar with fast finish runs.

Tomorrow will be rest after today’s demanding session. Let’s see how well recovered I’ll be on Tuesday…
