This time I only have a couple of rants about the future of computing as well as about a nice project, Pebble, and the product it delivers. In my opinion the recent few years and months have shed some light to how the computing is going to change already in the near future. The ubiquitous technology itself is nothing new, but we finally see it is becoming a part of our everyday life. I’m really anxious about the opportunities provided by Google Glass, Pebble etc. Obviously those only are a beginning, but gradually we get rid of the device-centered world and technology really starts to surround us.
If you have been following any of the major technology sites or blogs lately you probably haven’t been able to avoid Pebble, the crowdfunded smart watch. Unfortunately I stumbled upon the project a bit too late and could not be one of the backers, but anyway I preordered one when it became possible. Now I’m eagerly waiting that the backer get their devices and the rest of the queue gets their devices as well.
The Pebble watch itself is not an entirely new idea as there already are competing smart watches in the market, but I’m confident on that the platform will evolve and be improved, especially thanks to the upcoming SDK with which everyone has the opportunity to develop apps for the Pebble. At the beginning I’m satisfied with the basic functions, i.e. notifications, the ability to control the music player of iPhone and the possibility to have a cool watch face. 🙂
Since many years I don’t wear a watch so let’s see how it feels. After I’ll finally get grab on the device, I’ll write a post about my experiences. Until that I’ll have to figure out something else to do. 😉
