On Monday evening I had that much of spare time that I could start with a long-time dream – to get an own virtual server with which to experiment and play with. After a short web browsing I decided to give a try to Misterhost as it had got some positive feedback and was affordable enough (a couple of Eur per month). Naturally I could have setup a server at home, but at the present stage of life I rather avoid having too much electronics at home and I did not want start hassling with my firewall either.
Misterhost VHost was opened promptly and after that it was easy to start with the experiments. The LAMP installation as basis I installed also WordPress for this blog. Everything worked well and until now I haven’t had need for a more efficient configuration (at the moment I’m only having 128 MB RAM and 5 GB hard disk space). Anyway this is easy to change if the need resides.
I intend to start presenting my small software and tech projects here so that this gradually forms a small portfolio about my skills etc. Some themes I plan to cover by posts are mobile and web apps with some interesting technologies such as NoSQL based solutions, e.g. MongoDB, Node.js and JavaScript based solutions.
